Transeva Therapy has been around for almost 60 years. This technique was first created and mastered by Sir Charles Strong in England, where he specialized mainly in using the electrical pulse therapy for human rehabilitation and therapy. He was encouraged to further his work to include the treatments to horses and in 1939 Strong made this a reality with his latest invention, the Transeva. This groundbreaking aparatus was not only mobile but also able to create a faradic pulse which in turn would stimulate muscle contractions. Charles Strong was knighted for his forward thinking and remarkable improvements in the medical field. The Transeva was later brought to South Africa in 1952 by his apprentice Winks Greene who trained by his side for 18 months. Transeva Therapy at Equinnetics is practiced by therapists that were trained with the same technique and core principles as was used 60 years ago, and to this day, they use the proven, established Winks Greene Transeva.
The Transeva technique is used to assess and treat the musculoskeletal system as a whole. Unlike many other electromuscular stimulation therapies, the Transeva is unique as the therapist holds the handpiece that transmits the pulse which allows the therapist to be in full control of the current. They can thus make dynamic, accurate changes to the muscle as the session progress.
Equinnetics (Pty) Ltd was founded in 2017 by Kristien van Werkhoven. She grew up in the Pretoria, South-Africa and it was there where she discovered her happy place - among horses! Her passion for all things equestrian led to her enrolment at BSET Academy in 2015 where she received her qualification as a Transeva Therapist. She is a dynamic, go-getter who is always looking for new challenges. If she is not riding, treating or running after a horse, you will either find her sharing travel stories with friends or on a plane of to some new destination. With her love of travelling and her need to explore, she quickly found herself managing polo ponies in England for the next three UK polo seasons. Here she got to put her knowledge to the test as she worked out fitness and nutrition plans for these top equine athletes. It is well know that Kristien cannot stay idle for long and that, as well as her thirst for knowledge led to her enrolment at the University of Guelph where she obtained a Diploma of Equine Science as well as a Certificate in Equine Business Management.
We are currently very privileged to be working on horses that are actively competing in almost every dicipline. Not only do we have multi-diciplined horses, but we are also working with a group of very diverse riders and trainers. Our riders enjoy everything from happy hacks to competing on a national level in Western Mounted Games, SANESA Shools League, open and graded jumping, dressage and showing shows. We are also actively involved in the polo community in Gauteng, and soon hope to get involved with horses in the racing and eventing sector as well. We can not be more proud! We love to go and support our clients at equestrian events. So, look out for our brand!
